Weezer Releases Surprise Teal Album of Cover Songs

Source: Weezer.com

Weezer posts the ultimate TBT post at midnight on Thursday morning. Okay, now picture this…and maybe all of you had a similar scenario happen to you. I’m sitting on the couch talking with my family and scrolling though my phone after having just gotten home from work late Wednesday night. Little did I know what was about to happen at the stroke of midnight. Well, actually in my case I think it was a little delayed and more like 12:07am. So I get this notification that Weezer has posted like 9 YouTube videos…I of course had to click on my email and see what the heck is going on?

I open up the email to the surprise of this awesome picture of Weezer all in like retro clothes and hairdos looking very 80s. As I look down at this same picture over and over along with the titles of these songs, I’m freaking out to my family….OMG, OMG, Weezer has just released like a bunch of cover songs! I excitedly blurt out the names of each song, with an OMG attached to the front of each title….

  • Take on Me by Aha
  • Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears
  • Sweet Dreams are Made of These by The Eurythmics
  • Happy Together by The Turtles
  • Paranoid by Black Sabbath
  • Mr. Blue Sky by ELO
  • No Scrubs by TLC
  • Billie Jean by Michael Jackson
  • Stand By Me by Ben E. King

And yes, Africa by Toto is part of this album too, but not part of these notifications since it’s been out for awhile now. 🙂

I listened to each of these songs immediately in kind of a random order. I’m embarrassed to say this, but I wasn’t sure what the “No Scrubs” song was at first until I heard it, then I was totally transported to the late 90s with TLC! 🙂

Let me tell you, if you enjoy the originals of any of these songs, then I highly recommend you give Weezer’s Teal Album a listen at least once. I pretty much love the originals of these songs and Weezer’s covers are so spot on but also have a fresh sound about them. Not that these songs needed new life injected into them, but I do believe this is what Weezer’s energy has done, breathed new life into these songs, especially for some new fans who may not even know these songs or kids who know their parents versions of these songs and now they have their own.

I know when covers of songs are done, just like when movies are remade, there is going to be a lot of criticism. I still haven’t given the new Point Break a chance because I love the Keanu Reeves Point Break movie and don’t understand why they even made a remake. So, I know this can be a touchy topic.

I listened to Weezer’s Teal Album the next day pretty much on repeat. I love it! It literally gave me so much energy at my night job…I was flying through my work. Weezer really compiled a great selection of songs that are pretty much uplifting and happy. Go ahead, give it a try, I think you’ll find the Teal Album by Weezer very therapeutic for the soul! Okay, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch! It IS really good though!

Well, that’s all for now about Weezer until we get the Black Album set to be released on March 1, 2019 along with a tour with the legendary Pixies! What a concert combination! I would love to go see that! I’m going to try and not get my hopes up as I can imagine the ticket prices will be out the roof!

I leave you with a couple YouTube videos, one of my favorite 80s songs, “Take on Me” by Aha and Black Sabbath’s rocker “Paranoid”. Once you are on YouTube, you can explore the other awesome tracks yourself! 🙂 You can also visit https://weezer.lnk.to/TheTealAlbum which will give you all the streaming and download options for this album! Enjoy!

One of the best 80’s songs EVER!
Always love to hear Weezer rockin’

Okay, I just want to link to all of them at this point, but how about just one more for the road….their cover of TLC’s “No Scrubs’ song is just awesome!

Such a great cover!

Oh what the heck, here is another song that just makes me so freakin’ happy to listen to, good job Weezer on ELO’s “Mr. Blue Sky” Get ready to be HAPPY! 🙂
